City of Olean Police Chief Announced
September 10, 2014—Olean--Olean Mayor William J. Aiello has announced that he will present Captain Jeffrey L. Rowley for appointment as the next Chief of Police (Provisional) at the Common Council Meeting on September 23, 2014.
Once confirmed by the Common Council, Chief Rowley, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and serve as chief counsel to the Mayor in matters of public safety.
Chief Rowley is a twenty-four year veteran of the Olean Police Department where he rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to senior-level positions including Captain in Charge of Investigations and most recently as Captain of the Patrol Division.
Chief Rowley was selected by the Mayor for appointment upon the recommendation of an advisory committee consisting of retired law enforcement officers, local business and civic leaders including a member of the Common Council. His appointment as Chief will be provisional under the Civil Service Law until the next competitive exam for Police Chief is administered by the Cattaraugus County Civil Service Commission. Upon successful completion of the exam Chief Rowley’s appointment will become permanent.
