Ribbon Cutting Scheduled for Olean’s William O. Smith Recreation Center

October 23, 2017 — Olean - The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the City of Olean’s William O. Smith Recreation Center is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., in the lobby of the Recreation Center, located at 551 East State Street.

William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean, has extended invitations to many of the dignitaries and officials who helped to make this project a reality for Olean, including New York State Senator Catharine Young, Assemblyman Joe Giglio, members of the Olean Common Council, members of the Cattaraugus County Legislature, Empire State Development, New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the contractors who worked on the project and the hockey teams who use the facility.

"We are pleased to cut the ribbon on the upgraded facility,” Mayor Aiello said. “The William O. Smith Recreation Center is a year round facility that adds to the quality of life for our residents and the ice rink is used by a number of groups and teams throughout the region.”

The $3.2 million project was aided by grants from Senator Catharine Young in the amount of $200,000, from a grant from New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in the amount of $500,000 and a grant from Empire State Development in the amount of $420,000. The general contractor was Kinley Corporation. Other contractors were Mollenberg-Betz, D.V. Brown Associates and Kel-Kur Electric.

“We are pleased that Senator Young, Empire State Development and New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation helped the City to finance the necessary upgrades,” Mayor Aiello continued. “The Rec. Center has been a mainstay in Olean recreation for over a generation and the renovations will allow the next generation to enjoy the benefits of the pool in the summer and the ice rink in the winter.”

Regarding the Ribbon Cutting, Mayor Aiello added, “I hope we have a great turn out for the event. Residents are more than welcome to attend the ceremony.”
