Dog Ordinance

As the snow begins to melt, the City of Olean would like to remind residents to pick up after your dogs or risk facing a fine.

City Ordinance 5-30 A6 FAILURE TO REMOVE DOG FECAL MATTER states the following:

It shall be unlawful for any owner of any dog in the City of Olean to permit or allow such dog to create a nuisance by defecating on property other than the owners and failing to immediately remove and properly dispose of any fecal matter. A conviction of a violation of this article shall be deemed an offense and punishable by a fine not exceeding $25 for the first offense, and $100 for the second offense and $250 for each offense thereafter.

Not only is it illegal, dog poop is also a health hazard as it carries bacteria and pathogens that can pollute freshwater supplies. In addition to that, who really wants to see this on our Walkable City streets?

Please be considerate of others and your community and be a responsible dog owner and pick up after your pet!
