Citywide Stormwater Basin Testing Underway:
Non-Toxic Green Dye Notice

April 16, 2025—Olean—The City of Olean announces that testing of stormwater basins is currently underway across the area to ensure the integrity of the stormwater and sanitary infrastructure. As part of this essential process, residents may observe a green-colored dye released into local waterways.

We would like to reassure the public that the green dye used in this testing is completely non-toxic, environmentally safe, and poses no risk to people, pets, or wildlife. The dye serves as an important tool for identifying potential connections between stormwater basins and the sanitary sewer system. By performing these evaluations, we aim to prevent improper connections that could lead to sanitary sewer bypasses.
