City of Olean Hotel Room Occupancy Tax

In December 2024, the Olean Common Council adopted Local Law #05-2024 establishing the City of Olean room occupancy tax to be allocated to promote tourism and to economic development. Beginning on March 15, 2025 overnight stays at hotels, motels, inns, BnBs, vacation rentals, short term rentals such asAirbnbs and VRBO’s in the City of Olean will become subject to a 5% City hotel room occupancy tax. This new City tax is separate from and in addition to the 5% Cattaraugus County hotel room occupancy tax.
Any business or individual renting out property or rooms for short-term stays in the City of Olean is now required to:
- Register as a lodging property with the City Auditor
Registration Form - Collect the 5% tax on all non-exempt stays
- Submit room tax returns and payment on a quarterly basis to the City
