October 13, 2023–Olean—William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean, asks, that until further notice, all users of the City of Olean public water service boil water before using.

“Please bring your tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute and cool before using. Or use bottled water, certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice,” Mayor Aiello said.

“We had a water main break at the corner of Lauren and North First Street which has caused the entire system to lose pressure and that increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water,” Mayor Aiello added.

The water main break is in the process of being isolated and repaired. It should be completed by Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00 p.m. It is likely that users of the Olean Public Water System will need to boil water for the next 3 days until the problem is fixed. The city will notify users when tests confirm that water no longer needs to be boiled.
