OFD Press Release 8/15/2022 – North Eleventh Street Fire

City of Olean Media Release for
142 North Eleventh Street Olean (Structure fire)

At approximately 0427 hours on Saturday May 27th units of the Olean Fire Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 142 North Eleventh Street. Department units were on location within minutes with two engines and one ambulance. The first arriving crew reported fire on the exterior of northwest corner and light smoke conditions, self-evacuation of the property was done prior to our arrival and confirmed by units on scene. Crews used a water can to extinguish the fire on the exterior, and then made entry with a 1 inch and 3/4 hose line to check for extension in the interior of the structure. They encountered light smoke conditions but no actively burning fire, crews then used a thermal imaging camera on both the inside and outside of the structure and determined that the fire had spread inside the walls. Interior crews removed lathe and plaster walls to expose any fire and extinguished the flame. Salvage and overhaul operations were put in place to protect the personal property of the tenants. No injuries were reported at the time of this release and the tenants were being assisted by love thy neighbor response.

The City of Olean was assisted and would like to thank the following agencies. Mutual aid provided on scene by Deputy 4 and Portville Fires Air truck, Trans Am conducted on scene EMS Allegany, and Weston’s Mills who stood by in our stations. The fire investigation team is was called to investigate, the cause of the fire in undetermined at this time.

The City of Olean Fire Department would like to commend the tenants for quickly realizing the situation and evacuating the home. In addition we would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of the City of Olean just how important it is to have functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to alert you to the danger of fire or Carbon monoxide emergencies.
