South Olean Levee Brush Fire

On Monday, August 15th at 12:20 PM, City of Olean Firefighters were alerted to a large brush fire on the levees in the vicinity of the 600 Block of West Greene Street that created a large amount of smoke in South Olean. The City of Olean Fire Department responded with one engine, one ambulance and a support vehicle. Fire crews utilized rakes, a hose-line and water extinguishers to extinguish the fire. City of Olean Firefighters were on scene for approximately 30 minutes.

The exact cause of the fire in undetermined. The City of Olean Fire Department wants to remind people of the dry conditions that we are currently in and to take care when having recreational fires, discarding smoking materials, or setting off fireworks. This is the third such fire on the levees in the past two weeks.
