South 4th Street Structure Fire
On Wednesday, August 17th at approximately 12:52, City of Olean Firefighters were alerted to a structure fire at 125 South 4th Street after a reported large lightning strike in the area. The City of Olean Fire Department responded initially with two engines, one ladder truck and one ambulance. Fire crews were on scene within four minutes, found smoke and fire coming from the roof. Fire crews stretched a 1 ¾” hose line, utilized hand tools and thermal imaging to extinguish the fire in the attic. Fire under control within six minutes. City of Olean Firefighters were on scene for approximately 60 minutes.
The exact cause of the structure fire is under investigation at this time by the City of Olean Fire Investigation Team. After initial extinguishment, fire crews worked diligently to salvage the roof of the structure by placing tarps to prevent further damage from the elements.
