Building Fire – Laurel Ave/East State St
(Laurel Ave) At 0359 Friday morning, City of Olean Firefighters were dispatched to 330 Laurel Avenue for a report of a garage fire with possible entrapment. While responding units were advised that this was a confirmed fire and a 3rd alarm was automatically called. Engine 42 arrived within four minutes and reported heavy fire showing from the garage. Engine 42 pulled a 2 1/2″ line and the officer checked on the residence. A second 1 ¾” line was pulled due to a garage exposure involved on the 3 side of the original garage. Command requested an engine from Westons Mills Fire Department to the scene to assist with the garage fire on East State Street. Fire was knocked down after approximately 30 minutes. Ladders were used to gain access to the second floor and roof area of both buildings since the buildings were not safe to enter. Overhaul was completed. Allegany Fire and EMS stood by at Central Fire Station along with the Town of Olean Fire Department at Fire Station #1, providing coverage while OCFD units were on scene. Trans Am Ambulance was also on scene to provide EMS care if needed.
(E State) After arrival at the Laurel Avenue fire, a garage with an East State Street address was found to be involved as well. Weston Mills was requested to the scene to assist with access and additional water supply. OFD Ladder 164 and Weston Mills Engine 55 provided primary fire extinguishment for the E State fire. An additional line was also stretched from Laurel Ave to assist with the extinguishment. Both garages were under control in approximately 30 minutes after dispatch. Once overhaul was completed on both structures the scene was turned over to the Investigation Team.
Cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the City of Olean Fire Investigation Team and the Cattaraugus County Fire Investigation Team.
