WINTER IS FAST APPROACHING!
Be aware of the following rules:
RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING SIDEWALKS CLEAR OF SNOW AND ICE (OLEAN CODE SECTION 21-5)
Snow & ice shall be removed within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall. Commercial businesses shall keep walks clear at all times from 9:00AM to 5:00 PM.
If snow & ice is not cleared in a timely manner, the City will leave a notice at the premise giving four hours to clear the sidewalks. If not done after the four hour period, the City will arrange for the walks to be cleared by City forces and/or private contractor. The owner of the property will then be charged for all labor involved in clearing the sidewalk, as well as a fine ranging from $50-$250. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Office at (716) 376-5650.
RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING WATER METERS PROTECTED FROM THE COLD (OLEAN CODE SECTION 27-27)
It is the property owner’s responsibility to protect the City’s water meter from frost, negligence, or misuse. You must assure there is sufficient heat in the area of the water meter to protect it from freezing. If the meter does freeze, the property owner will be charged $150 each time the meter has to be repaired or replaced. It is illegal to tamper with the water meter. All repair and/or replacement will be done by City forces. If you have any questions, please contact the Water Office at (716) 376-5657.
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SHOVEL SIDEWALKS
City is looking to compile a list of volunteers who can help our elderly and disabled citizens with shoveling and ice removal this winter. If a resident or a service organization would like to be on the list or for more details, please contact the Mayor’s Office at (716) 376-5615.
LANDSCAPE & SNOW REMOVAL CONTRACTORS (OLEAN CODE SECTION 13-390)
Any person that owns or leases at least one motor vehicle for conducting a snow removal and/or landscape business must apply for a license through the Code Enforcement Office. Violators will be ticketed on site. There is no fee for this license. If you have any questions, please contact the Code Enforcement Office at (716) 376-5683.
